Pathfinder – Apex Guide: Origin
Very little is know about Pathfinder’s past. So far we know that he is a MRVN (Mobile Robotic Versatile eNtity) modified to specialize in location scouting and surveying. He booted up decades ago in an abandoned warehouse with no idea who created him or why. Pathfinder eventually set out in search of his creator.
We later get a more in-depth origin story that finds Pathfinder in trouble with the local mafia. He crosses paths with a retired cop where they then end up fighting multiple Spectre robots and making strides to finds the famous criminal, Caustic, who was presumed dead. Watch the “Fight Night” trailer to see all the action in Pathfinder’s origin story.
Pathfinder – Apex Guide: Strengths and Weaknesses
Pathfinder offers high-mobility and humorous voice lines. He can be in the stickiest of situations and escape with ease. His grappling hook can be used in many ways, whether it be for offensive or defensive purposes. There is no escape from Pathfinder. He can close any gap between himself and his enemies. His main purpose is to use his grappling hook to chase down enemies and get a better angle for flanks. If the enemies continue to run to higher grown, your zipline will take you and your team right up there with them.
Since Pathfinder is used a lot to flank and get better angles on enemies, this can leave him in solo situations. If his team is too far away and the enemy team decides to turn their full focus on him, it can end with you getting killed and leaving your team in a 2v3 fight. The best Pathfinders know their weaknesses and play around them. Always use your abilities to gain better angles and escape danger if needed.
Pathfinder – Apex Guide: Abilities Overview
Pathfinder’s abilities make him a very useful legend with high mobility. Whether an enemy team is far away or close by, he can hunt them down in no time. Let’s take a closer look at what Pathfinder brings to the Apex games.
- Passive: Insider Knowledge
- Scan a survey beacon to reduce the cooldown of your Zipline Gun and discover the next safe zone.
- Tactical: Grappling Hook
- Grapple to get in hard-to-reach places quickly.
- Ultimate: Zipline Gun
- Creates a zipline for everyone to use (not just your teammates).
Insider Knowledge Tips (Passive)
Insider Knowledge is a very simple but effective passive. There are plenty of recon-based legends that can scan survey beacons to discover the next safe zone, but with Pathfinder this will permanently reduce the cooldown of his Zipline Gun by 10 seconds. This can stack until the maximum cooldown reaches 60 seconds from its initial 120 seconds.
Grappling Hook Tips (Tactical)
Pathfinder’s Grappling Hook is the driving force to stomp any team. This ability helps you to charge in and take control. It helps you run and avoid and 3rd party from attacking you. His grappling hook attaches to any nearby object or land and pulls him towards it. Momentum is taken into account here and when used correctly, you can swing yourself around objects very fast.
Things you might not have known about Pathfinder’s Grappling Hook:
- Most players know you can grapple onto an enemy and pull yourself towards them. BUT. If you move backwards while grappling, it will pull the enemy towards you.
- High ground and angles are your go-to. Always be on the lookout for these.
- Your cooldown is determined by the distance you traveled with your hook. The maximum your cooldown can be is 30 seconds.
- You can swing/fling yourself while grappling. Simply strafe to the left or right of where you launched your grappling hook.
- If you miss with your ability it will not trigger a cooldown.
Zipline Gun Tips (Ultimate)
The Zipline Gun is amazing for a variety of situations. Taking highground on enemy teams, escaping gunfire, crossing terrain, and so much more. You and your team will control the map with this ability if used wisely. To use this ability you simply need to aim a distance away and attach the end to an object or to the terrain.
Things you might not have known about Pathfinder’s Zipline Gun:
- Your Ziplines can be used by anyone in the game. Be cautious of this when you leave the area as teams can follow you.
- Like most abilities, there is a rather loud audio queue when launching your zipline. Nearby enemies can hear this.
- Before using the zipline clear your surroundings. You are very vulnerable while zipping across.
- While the zipline is a great team ultimate, the cooldown is rather short so feel free to use it for yourself to get better angles on the opposing team.
Pathfinder – Apex Guide: Tips and Tricks
Alright, now let’s go over some final tips and tricks that will improve your Pathfinder skills even more.
- Use your Grappling Hook and Zipline Gun to get better angles. I know I’m beating a dead horse here but it’s true. Get angles on enemy teams and force them to push in or run away. Yes, you will get some teams who focus on the lone Pathfinder. Just run away and loop back to your team if this happens.
- Never miss a survey beacon. Even if you have another recon-based legend on your team who can do survey beacons, you should always be the one getting them. This is because you benefit the most from it. Each time you use a survey beacon your cooldown for your ultimate is reduced by 10 seconds.
- Always communicate. Yes, you are the player who runs off to get the better angles and flank. You should never assume that your team knows you’ve done this. Always let them know you are going for a better angle so they can base their gameplay on that. Otherwise, they may assume you are with them in a 3v3 and push in unaware.
