Apex Legends Arena is a 3v3 Team Deathmatch mode. This new game mode comes with a variety of different gameplay set apart from the well know Battle Royale style. The winner is decided by winning at least 3 rounds, but you must also win by at least 2 rounds. This means there can be many overtime and tiebreaker rounds. To get a better understanding of this new mode you need to get acquainted with the Shop as well as the new maps and how to play in this type of mode. You won’t get by with your basic Battle Royale strategies and playstyle. This Apex Arena Guide will discuss everything you need to know on how to win every game.
The Shop
Every round will start with you in the buy menu. You have three different sections of weapons. Navigate through each section and familiarize yourself with where each weapon is. There is a short amount of time during the buy phase and it’s best practice to buy your weapons as soon as possible so you can exit the buy menu and get in position to head out and fight.
You also have your Ability and Consumables sections. It is essential to be smart about your money and not spend everything in one round. Do you really need the extra heal on round one? There is no need to worry about buying armor or a helmet in this mode because you are already supplied with them. Unfortunately, you cannot upgrade either item.
Each round you will start out with 2-3 of your ability items depending on your legend. If you decide you want more uses you can simply purchase more. You will also start out with 2 Syringes and 2 Shield Cells. Anything more you will need to purchase.
At the end of each round, unlike popular games Valorant and CS:GO, if you survive you will not keep your weapons. You will, however, regardless of winning or losing the round, keep any unused consumables and abilities.
Loadouts
Loadouts are crucial to success in the arena. Not just what you choose but also when you choose. Buying a top-tier gun round one may not be a great choice if it eats up all your money and you lose the round. Now going into round 2 you have a lot less money at your disposal. Then again I have seen great success with spending all my money on a wingman round one so it can go either way.
My main point here is just to keep an eye on how much money you have and try to save some if possible. Personally, I like to go for an EVA-8 on round one for maps I know has a close-range area and then wingman the rest of the game. Alternatively, I like to grab a Sentinel on long-range maps for round one and then a Flatline and Sentinel combo for the rest of the game.
The choice is yours here but be mindful of what the other teams choose as the rounds go on. If they always buy a wingman, maybe take the fight a little further away with snipers and eat away at their shields. Or if they like snipers, keep in cover and buy a sniper as well with a rifle as a secondary. There are a whole variety of options the mess around with and find your perfect combo.
Watch the Circle
I have seen way too many teams run to the wrong side of the map not paying attention to the safe zone. With that being said, it’s not the worst strategy to start off outside of the circle with snipers and rotate in towards the enemy after you’ve made them waste a bunch of heals. This is a great strategy and you can find more top strategies for each map in Apex Arenas right here on this blog!
But seriously, be mindful of the zone and plan your next push or gunfight around that. If you know the next zone is not in your favor then try to make an early rotate to get better positioning. A lot of the time, positioning is key to winning most fights in Apex Arena. Next time you head into a match try out different plays based on the zone. Do you play better starting outside of the zone and working in or having a head-to-head war inside of the starting zone?
Know the Maps
This may seem like an obvious one but many people go into Arena and don’t bother to learn callouts. Even if you make the callouts up that is better than just saying “He’s left” or “On me”. Communicating with your team on the enemy’s location will win you many more games than no communication. Now yes, you can ping an enemy location and that’s great and does help but giving a more precise callout can be the difference-maker in a lot of situations. Give it a try and watch your win rate shoot up!
Map Materials and Supply Bins
It pains me how many times this is overlooked. You have, at a minimum, 400 crafting material just sitting on the map and no one grabbing them. Get in the habit of at least getting one of these every round as this will give you and your teammate 200 crafting material each. That can be the difference between you upgrading a gun, buying another ability to use, or grabbing another consumable.
There are also so many supply bins left untouched each round. Each supply bin contains 1 Phoenix Kit, 2 Shield Batteries, and 1 Med Kit. You can’t even purchase a Phoenix and the rest equal 350 materials in value. There are 2 locations on each map where supply bins spawn, therefore you should always be able to get at least one. Leaving these supply bins untouched is a crime and should always be utilized. Think of the last time you complained about not having another battery or a medkit and wished you had bought one. Well, there are free ones on the map so go out there and get them!
The Best Legends
Don’t hop into Arena and think your main legend for the Battle Royale will come in and dominate. Not all legends are as viable in Arena as they are in the classic BR mode but there are a few top team comps you need to try. If your legend is based mostly on their ultimate ability then you may want to rethink your legend selection. Ultimate abilities are one of the higher-cost items in the buy menu and are usually unpurchaseable until later rounds.
Let’s look at Wraith. Arguably one of the strongest legends in the Battle Royale mode. Now she’s not bad in Arena but there are far better choices to lead the pack. For Arena, you want to focus on a lot of different things like Recon and Defense. Mobility isn’t that big of a factor due to map size and positioning. You can definitely include aggressive and mobility-based legends in your comp. I would just focus more on your recon legends like crypto and bloodhound as well as your defense legends like Rampart and Gibraltar.
